Glossary

Plain-English definitions of the terms you’ll run into when shopping for booking software.

Appointment scheduler
An appointment scheduler is a software tool that lets businesses publish their availability and accept bookings without manual coordination. It manages calendar conflicts, sends confirmations and reminders, and (on most modern systems) accepts payment at booking.
No-show
A no-show is a customer who books an appointment but does not arrive at the scheduled time and does not cancel in advance. In service businesses, no-shows directly translate to lost revenue because the slot cannot be resold on short notice.
Online booking
Online booking is the process of letting customers self-schedule an appointment with a business through a web page or embedded widget, without phone or email contact. The booking writes to a shared calendar in real time so no slot is double-booked.
